Instant Gratification

Regardless of what I tell my children, sometimes you actually can get it.

Also, in my experience, when you least expect to find something, it usually turns up.

What might we be talking about here? Yes, my new sectional.

A few weeks ago when I was in Connecticut I took a quick turn through one of my regular stops, the Lillian August outlet (see this previous post on what makes it such a great furniture resource) and there it was: the configuration I needed and the single seat-cushion style I prefer, slip-covered in a beige linen/cotton blend, and the perfect size - the 38" depth I wanted but only 29" high so the back doesn't block the windows and it easily fit through the narrow doorways of our old house.

Wondering about my furry friend at the foot of the chaise? Remember my post on Får Fäll? Well, I am running with the Nordic themes and that is an Icelandic sheepskin I ordered from Black Sheep (White Light). People were fighting over it so now we have four.

Still no television, but the console is now positioned below the spot where a future TV would hang on the wall. I've restyled it with a small oil painting by family friend Wylene Commander and a marble covered dish from Cottage & Garden that I filled with Santa Maria Novella pot pourri - I love catching the scent when I walk through the room.

  2. what a great find. I have an awkwardly shaped sunroom that is ideal for a sectional...saving this for the inspiration file! Thank you for including your sources...looking forward to checking out all.

  3. Isn't it great when you finally find the perfect thing. I think you appreciate it all the more having waited a long time for it and this looks well worth the wait! The sheepskin looks so cozy too! x Sharon

  9. Oh, this is giving me serious sectional envy! I still haven't done a single thing with my kids 'den' area, and it is looking sad. A sectional is the perfect solution!

I love how you styled the console. That little piece of art and the sculpture are lovely!

  11. That's really beautiful! The linen looks gorgeous.

I'll have to show this post to a friend of mine. He is a disciple of Santa Maria Novella and has everything. Cologne, candles. shaving cream...even an elixir for hysteria. He did his pilgrimage to the farmaceutica in Florence a few years ago.

Love your Osa Johnson book too.

  12. Phyllis beautifully done! It looks and feels like it has always been there, so it was meant to be:) I love the accent pillows that really make it yours and of course the fur throws! These are the times that making those decisions pay off every time you walk into the room or tuck into that couch and almost purr with delight! I am happy for youxob

  14. Hello Phyllis....Funny but when I saw the first image I thought you would be talking about your beautiful pillows and I was going to have to ask about your sofa....glad I was wrong. Your sofa is beautiful and I love the double stitching on the seams, well made. Love your furry friend on it but I'm afraid Dylan wouldn't so I would have to pass on it. Your home is so beautiful!

  16. Love your attitude.

50 requirements for a sofa. Let them build it for YOU.

And they did it perfectly without knowing your house or taste!

  19. Phyllis,
The sectional is wonderful and you're right, good things can turn up when we least expect it. I love the pillows you've got on the sectional, the subtle colors and the fact that one looks like bees and one dragon flies? Anyway, it's really lovely. The oil painting is so pretty too.

  24. Oh so beautiful! We have a sectional that we ordered from West Elm in a grey flannel that we love. I considered linen but it is in our kitchen/ lounge. This might be on my wish list for our living room. I want to modernize it and make it comfy. I love all neutrals too.

  26. Looking wonderful Phyllis! And I like that you speak "Nordic"! We sure have that in common! As a matter of fact, on my way to Sweden next week I will stop in Iceland! (I always pick up Icelandic Schnapps with real moss in the bottle! Now, that is something to write home about).

I have so little time for blog land nowadays but you are good. I need to pay more attention to you! (:

  35. Such a great-looking sofa, Phyllis. Love, love the color of sofa and pillows. So serene. Does your family ever just toss the pillows aside when using the sofa? Mine do and it always breaks my heart, but I put everything back in order as soon as possible. It's a disease. Anyway your room looks really lovely so enjoy that instant gratification.
    Have a great week-end,
